Esperanto is an expansive, supranational union that has been in power for several centuries. It is based in the fertile and prosperous planet of Hejmen, a planet of a major Leaf that sits at the crown of Hanaq. It has established a vast and powerful network of trade and colonies to influence the other kingdoms of the universe.
Esperanto was the creator of the Common Language. It is sometimes called The Universal Union.
Esperanto's government believes that peace in the universe can only be achieved by a powerful government that grants equal rights to all creatures. Despite being a fey controlled society, it believes that nature, magic, and technology must all be a part of society in a delicate balance that eschews tradition in favor of what it believes to be progress for all creatures. It is fundamentally against the concept of Livestock a practice where intelligent creatures enslave other intelligent creatures.
Esperanto ultimately wants to rule the entire universe and create a "universal community" that tears down all old tradition. It prefers to incorporate non-members with soft influence rather than an explicit invasion.
Despite their worldview, and plenty of good individuals who believe in its cause, Esperanto is often far more repressive than it lets on. Corruption, unjustified invasion, exploitation, and propaganda are rampant and 'enemies of The Union' are brutally dealt with with little question.
History
Esperanto was founded after The War Of Eight Nations in 0 AW (After War). This was when a nation called Arcadia began an aggressive conquest that supposedly utilized the power of Divine Magic for some of the most atrocious acts in all history. The war lasted for 32 years, ending with the total annihilation of the Arcadia islands. Hejmen's population dropped by 10% during the course of the war, making it the bloodiest war in history.
After the war was over, Hejmen became highly interconnected. Esperanto was founded as an organization that would prevent another War of Eight Nations. This war saw Hejmen expand its economic and technological might to unprecedented levels. Over a century, it became so powerful that it was stronger than any other government, and by 200 PW it was colonizing other planets.
Three Pillars of The Union
Political power in the Union is divided by three powers, often called the Three Pillars. The influence of each of the pillars waxes and wanes depending on region.
Armada
Armada is the standing military force and judiciary of Esperanto itself. Its primary focus is protecting trade from pirates, and enforcing Esperanto's laws. The organization is responsible for lifting people out of poverty actively. Armada's command is spread out and diverse, with the governance of a region heavily dependent on the high command stationed there. Armada Airfey are well known for their signature green and white uniforms with large goggles and a helmet.
Coven
The Coven are the official magistrates of all magical affairs. It carries on the academic tradition of Hejmen. The Coven also is responsible for hunting down Divine Magic, a job they've done so well that it barely is known of anymore.
Bannersairs
The Bannersairs are independant guilds of mercenary adventurers granted Marque Badges to do state-approved adventuring in an area. Often guilds are hired to do jobs by locals, kings, or Armada forces that can't do themselves. This practice is extremely controversial among some in Armada, but most agree it's a necessary check on Armada's power.
The Mainseam are the 5 top captains in the Bannersairs. They are given extreme leeway in how they run their operations as long as they do not attack the other pillars.
Gefratoj
The Gefratoj is the assembly of all nations in The Union. It's a representative democratic republic that decides the affairs and direction of the union as a united force and has direct control of Armada's agenda.
Representatives are selected in any way a member state sees fit, some putting them up for election, and others having them talon-picked by the head of state. Votes are proportional to island population, with Hejmen having the most representatives.
